Power to the People Webinar: “Flamingos, cockroaches and youth revolts: what do they want, what do they get?”
Dear friends!
In the world of politics, corruption and youth often have one thing in common. They are often made invisible. Yet, sometimes, they become visible very suddenly. This is what happened in Novi Sad, New Delhi or Tirana, where the emergence of corruption intersects with the feeling that many political ideas are unheard and many hopes unmet.
A new paradigm emerges: young voices walk the streets, organise in more formal structures and speak to the media across borders, demanding answers. Do these phenomena reveal something deeper about the way in which we do politics today and how we could do it in the future? What are these protesters asking for? How do they move from very specific trigger to more general demands? Do they get what they want? Join us for an online conversation with activists and democracy analysts, to connect the dots and think together about how protests help imagine real change. There will first be contributions by key individuals at the centre of this struggle, followed by an opportunity to ask questions and hold a public debate.

- On India‘s “Cockroaches” movement: Professor Shalini Randeria, Renowed Indian Social Anthropologist, currently rector of the Institut für die Wissenschaften vom Menschen (IWM) in Vienna
- On the “Flamingo Revolution” in Albania, Gresa Hasa, Researcher at the Faculty of Law and the Center for Southeast European Studies (CSEES), University of Graz
- Binding it all together, Professor Kalypso Nicolaidis, Chair in Global Affairs at the School of Transnational Governance of the European University Institute (EUI)
