Dear friends and supporters,
Did you hear the news? Last week, the research project ‘Forever Lobbying Project’ uncovered an unprecedented lobbying campaign by the chemical industry. For over a year, 46 journalists from 16 European countries have been investigating the activities of the PFAS industry, which is trying hard to block an EU legislative initiative. This is because these so-called “forever chemicals” are not only a threat to our health and the environment but above all: a big source of revenue.
PFAS, these “forever chemicals”, are everywhere: in non-stick pans, raincoats, food packaging and even in our drinking water. They not only endanger our nature but also put our health at risk.
The consequences? Liver damage, fertility problems, cardiovascular diseases and even cancer. But the chemical industry is sticking firmly to production.
The science is clear, the damage is immense: more than 23,000 sites are already contaminated by PFAS. The clean-up of PFAS-contaminated sites will cost 2 trillion euros over the next few years. But that’s not all: up to 84 billion euros will be spent annually on the health consequences of PFAS.
In our webinar, organised together with MEP Jutta Paulus, we want to talk about how we can finally enforce a far-reaching EU-wide ban, stricter limits and the liability of the polluters.
Join us on 22 January 2025 at 6:00 p.m. CET and discuss with top-class experts and decision-makers:
- Vicky Cann, who was involved in the research project ‘Forever Lobbying Project’ for the lobby transparency NGO ‘Corporate Europe Observatory’
- Stefan Scheuer, EU policy expert at ChemTrust, a German-British association working to protect against harmful chemicals
- Theresa Kjell, Head of Policy at ChemSec – the International Chemical Secretariat, which works with large corporations and investors to end the use of toxic chemicals
- Jutta Paulus, Member of the European Parliament for Bündnis90/Die Grünen, scientist and former owner of a testing laboratory for chemicals, biocides, pesticides, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, nanomaterials
- Moderation: Maximilian Fries, Executive Director of Europe Calling e.V.
The webinar will be simultaneously translated into German and English.
Why is your participation so important?
The chemical industry is one of the most powerful lobbyists in Europe. They spend around €34 million a year on their lobbying machine. But together we are stronger! Let’s raise our voices to banish this invisible threat from our daily lives and participate in the webinar.
Your commitment counts – for a healthier future for us all!
With European greetings,
Max and everyone at Europe Calling e.V.
