Europe Calling Webinar “Chat control – child protection or mass surveillance?”

Dear friends!
Aiming to strengthen child protection, some EU governments are currently pushing for the introduction of so-called ‘chat control’ . This would involve the mass screening of private messages, emails and chats of all citizens – an infringement of fundamental rights that even the Council’s own legal service warns against.
Broad resistance to these plans is currently forming across Europe.
The accusation: under the guise of child protection, the door is being opened to indiscriminate mass surveillance – and even more data is being sent to the US tech bros in the process.
In a joint webinar organised by Europe Calling e.V. and Alexandra Geese, we will discuss the current dynamics in the Council of the EU, the consequences for our privacy and digital security – and what real alternatives there are.
Our guests are:
- NEW: Udbhav Tiwari | Vice-President for Strategy and Global Affairs at Signal
- Giacomo Zandonini | Investigative journalist and member of the Italian Fada collective
- Konstantin Macher | Political scientist and digital rights activist, board member of ‘Digitale Gesellschaft e.V.’
