Dear friends, dear all,

It is done! In the night from Friday to Saturday, the negotiators of the European Parliament, the EU member states and the EU Commission agreed on a common text for the Digital Services Act (DSA). It is now clear what will be in this European constitution for the internet. After the breakthrough with the sister law “Digital Markets Act” (DMA) three weeks ago, the second major project of European digital policy is now secured.

With the DSA, the EU is putting a stop to hate, propaganda and disinformation on the internet. Surveillance capitalism, tracking, spying and cookie madness are to come to an end. The uncontrolled supremacy of the big digital corporations is to be broken. Nothing less than a Digital Spring for democracy and users’ rights on the internet – with effects beyond the EU.

But what exactly is in the agreement? Is the compromise really a “digital spring”? Where do we go from here?

We will talk about this in the next Europe Calling with high-level guests:

  • Prof. Shoshana Zuboff, renowned US digital economist & bestselling author of “The Age of Surveillance Capitalism”.
  • Alexandra Geese MEP, European Parliament negotiator in the DSA negotiations (Greens/EFA Group), founding board member of Europe Calling e.V.
  • Markus Beckedahl, digital expert & founder of netzpolitik.org and re:publica
  • Sven Giegold, State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection and former spokesperson for the German Greens in the European Parliament

When? Tuesday, 26.4.2022, 20:00 – 21:30 CEST (Brussels/Berlin)

The webinar will be simultaneously translated into English and German.
