Europe Calling “Free opinions? – How X and TikTok influenced the German federal election”
31.March 19:00 - 20:30

Dear friends!
Free and fair elections require not only the ballot box but also the space in which people form their voting decisions beforehand. In view of X-owner Musk’s support for the AfD and Zuckerberg and TikTok’s cosy relationship with Trump, one question is becoming increasingly important:
Is the way information reaches people on Social Media, which a majority of those eligible to vote use as a source of information, still fair and free?
Two groups of researchers took a closer look at X/Twitter and TikTok before the German federal election and found that there is little that is fair and free. In this Europe Calling, the authors present their studies and answer your questions.
With us are:
- Karine Caunes, Executive Director, Centre for AI and Digital Humanism, co-author of the study ‘Analysis of the possible presence of information manipulation regarding the German 2025 Elections’
- Przemek Grabowicz, Assistant Professor of Computer Science at University College Dublin, Adjunct Professor of Computer Science at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and co-author of the study ‘Political Biases on X before the 2025 German Federal Election’
